This is the act of using a specialized resource to convert an entirely uninhabitable planet into a slightly more habitable planet. Rather than going into a deep dive into the game, I will explain the term important enough that they decided to name the game after it Gaia Project. The main crux of the game is building your engine to make sure you can produce everything you need to terraform and expand your empire. As you would expect, each faction has their own strengths and weaknesses to leverage or exploit. With that out of the way, Gaia Project tasks players to pick a faction and plot their course to exert the most control over a mostly unexplored region of space. I suspect you won’t mind as most readers just want to know if the app is functional and has the features you want (spoiler: it is and and does), but I did want to preface things a bit in case you were expecting a classic Pixelated Cardboard 1,000 word explanation section. Okay, that’s being overdramatic, but the point is that I can learn a game, play a fair number of times, not *really* get all of the intricacies, but still write a review. More recently I’ve fallen into the approach of accepting defeat and moving on. I’ve tried different routes over the years including playing until my thumbs were numb until I “got” the game. This, unsurprisingly, happens every now and then as I’m reviewing these apps. I’m noting my initial reaction here to be sure to set the stage in letting you know that Gaia Project is not my preferred type of game. Why/ How Do We Want to Save These Species?ĪP Environmental Science Online Section 1: Introduction.World's Fish Catch Went from 39 to 68 Million MT.Fish Harvests Increased Greatly in Mid-20th Century.Number of Births in Unit Time is Equal to Number of Deaths.Sustainable Yields and Viable Populations 0:06.On the other hand, some species are overly abundant and can encroach on the human population.Extinction can be local or global, and thankfully some endangered species have been helped back into larger population numbers.Their existence in the future truly depends on how we treat them and their resources Endangered species and threatened species have value to the human population in many ways.Fish harvest data recently has been alarming, leading to the question: Are fisheries sustainable in the long run? Fisheries are dominant in a few countries: Japan, China, Russia, Chile, and the United States. The catch per unit figures are also informative in determining total population numbers Age structure and harvests impact our knowledge about species in the wild.In managing wildlife the IUCN has a 4 principle approach: safety factor in terms of population size, concern with the community/resources, maintenance of the ecosystem/minimizing adversity, and continual monitoring and assessment.Carrying capacity and logistic growth curves relate the maximum sustainable population in an area to the resources of that given habitat. When it comes to wildlife and endangered species, we must consider: maximum sustainable yield, the minimum viable population, and the optimum sustainable population.
